Cheap Toshiba Laptop Computer Questions

I need a laptop which I will be using for school, internet, and Skype. I don't play games or anything, so I don't need a really expensive computer. I'm thinking about buying a really cheap Toshiba, but am concerned about making sure that Skype will work well on it. Are some laptops too slow for Skype? Anyone have any problems with this? Thanks!

THey have them at Walmart for $399. Circuit CIty today has them posted for $399. If we would have been smart, Toshiba has been on sale of $299 in the past month. Are there any sites that will tell us when this computer or one similar might go on sale? Any insight is appreciated, as money is very tight this Christmas and these twins start College next year and need computers. Again, any insight will be great. Thanks, Charley

Hey there. I'm browsing for laptops and I've come across a bit of a wall. Right now Best Buy has two computers on sale, a Toshiba Satellite for $550 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8897633&type=product&id=1212192350239) and a Sony VAIO for $600.(http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8892923&type=product&id=1211587728587) Now, at first brush the Toshiba seems like the better deal- it's $50 less, has 3 GB RAM (compared to the viao's 2 GB), a built-in webcam and mic, the same size screen as the Sony, and 200 GB HD (vs. Sony's 160 GB). Based on that alone, I was tempted to pick up the Satellite, but then I wondered...how can the Toshiba be CHEAPER and have more bang for the buck? My father says it's because Toshiba uses cheaper/less powerful components, and well...he builds computers, so he would know, but I think (in this case) he's being prejudiced. He absolutely LOVES VAIOS, and is pushing me to buy one myself. However, after owning two VAIOs that haven't lasted more than 2 years, and seeing just how expensive they can be, I'm willing to switch. What I'm asking is, is the Toshiba really as good a buy as it seems, or are they giving you these visible extras in an attempt to distract you from the computer's shortcomings? Is Toshiba a reliable, high-quality company? Also, if anyone can explain the more subtle pros and cons of each laptop (for example, is there a huge difference between graphic cards, processor, etc? If so, which one is better?) I'll be doing my own research, but I'd like some feedback, too! And feel free to make your own recommendations (even if they aren't Sony or Toshiba laptops), but just keep in mind that I'm a college student and don't want to spend more than $700. Thanks so much <3!

I have a busted power cord for my Toshiba. So, I cannot use it because I have no power obviously. I went to Best Buy and a few other computer stores and all they had to replace it were $75 and $90 cords. I just need the detachable part that plugs into a wall.

I just bought a cheap Satellite M100 Toshiba Laptop, and I was wondering if somebody can tell me, or if there is a way I can find out whether it has a HD screen or not. Thankyou if you can answer me!

I have a toshiba laptop and the screen just cracked. I don't have the money for a new one so connecting a computer monitor would be th cheapest way. My question is, HOW do I connect a monitor screen to a laptop and WHAT cables would I need (specific name) and what would I have to do once it's connected.. Any keys I have to press? Thank you!

I have a Toshiba Laptop. Recently, when I shut it down, it won't start back up. The motherboard is fine (i had it checked not too long ago, so its not a power/charger/connector issue). After a cycle of pushing the power button to turn it on, and then holding th epower button to turn it off again about 18 times, the Toshiba screen did come up (instead of the black screen it had been doing). its not centered the way it usually is. About 2 inches of the right side of the screen is black. The computer screen is now shoved into this condensed window. I think that this might have something to do with the wires connecting the two halves of the laptop, becuase when i shook it around, thats when the toshiba screen popped up, albeit off centered. Or maybe that was a fluke. Has anyone heard of this? could it be a virus? The laptop is 3 or more years old. Should i try reformatting the hard drive? If i have to replace it, whats the best cheap brand of laptop or desktop that is high quality?

It previously had 2x512MB @ 533MHz DDR2, of course...but as you may know, Vista with less than 2GB is awful. So, I ordered 2x1GB of Kingston's Value RAM, and choose the 667MHz speed too, in the hope of faster performance too. First it wouldn't boot. Then it tried and then BSOD right before login. But it worked a charm with 1x1GB, and 1x1GB + 1x512MB.... ...which is how I left it. So...memory was brand new, as was the computer. I'm pretty sure it was Toshiba's cheapest new laptop available. 1.6GHz dual core, on board graphics, cheap plastic feel, loud fan, etc. Any ideas here? Surely it should have taken 2GB.... Oh, and there was NOTHING in the BIOS to offer-up any help either. Thanks in advance for your answers.

maybe an acer or gateway or toshiba i need a computer (laptop) but i only have 672 dollars
